Raising Adorable Registered Miniature donkeys in S.E Oklahoma
We didn’t set out to raise miniature donkeys but fell in love with a donkey named Leroy who belongs to man who lives down the road from the Double C. Soon after meeting Leroy we purchased our first donkey, Rollie (center) a handsome Wooly, young stud from Mike & Barb Sullivan of Peckerwood Miniature Farm. Soon after that we purchased Annie (right) and Summer (left) from Jeffrey & Carol Jackson of Little Jackson Ranch.
Legend of the cross
Legend goes: the little donkey that Christ rode on Palm Sunday was also present the day that Christ was crucified, He watched as Jesus struggled to carry the heavy cross and wished he could help Jesus by carrying the heavy burden for him but that would not be allowed because Jesus was being punished and put to death for preaching the word of god. The little donkey couldn’t stand the sight he was seeing so he turned away but stayed just the same because he loved Jesus so and wanted to be near him.
In reward for his love and devotion, God let the shadow of the cross fall across the little donkey’s back and that shadow was imprinted on the hair so it could be seen by everyone and all would know that even a lowly little donkey can be rewarded for his love and devotion to Christ. That shadow of the cross was placed on all donkey’s backs from that day forward.

How could you not love this wooly little guy?
Creasy is a gorgeous 32 inch, 1 ½ year old spotted donkey. Although we love our spotted donkey’s we have always had a special fondness for the classic Gray Dunn’s. The Gray Dunn in our herd is Willow she is 4 years old, 34 inches and loves attention.
History of Miniature Donkeys
Miniature donkeys are native to the Mediterranean islands of Sicily and Sardinia. They are sometimes referred to as 'Sicilian donkeys' or 'Sardinian donkeys', but are more commonly known simply as 'miniature donkeys'.
The miniature donkey must be under 36" at the shoulder. The average size being between 32" and 35".
Miniature donkeys have very long life-spans and, providing that they are well cared for, can live to 25-45 years of age.
The most common color for the miniature donkey is a gray dun with a dark brown or gray 'cross' running over their shoulder and down their back.
There are many other colors such as spotted, brown, black, white, chestnut/sorrel, and everything in between. The brown, black, red and spotted are quite uncommon colors and are highly sought after in breeding programs.
Trying to guess the color of an expected foal can be almost impossible! Gray dun is by far the predominant gene, so you can breed black to black and get a gray dun, or spotted to spotted and still have a gray dun foal.
Whatever the colors, they each have their own special personality and bring enjoyment to children and adults alike.
In the 18th century Miniature Mediterranean Donkeys were often used to turn grinding stones for grinding grain. These small donkeys, would be blindfolded, attached to a grain mill and made to walk in endless circles. They were also used to carry water and supplies into the mountains for shepherds.
